Bridget Sleeping

Bridget looked so adorable snoozing away this morning that we had to take a picture. Even though the picture should be horizontal like she was, it looks pretty funny this way with Bridget fighting the power.

Plum Island

Ken, Bridget, my mom, and my sister Kathleen and I all went to Plum Island on Saturday. We had the perfect weather for exploring and it was early enough in the season that the mosquitoes and green flies haven't started attacking. All in all, an awesome day.

Here is Kathleen and I at a high point on the Dunes trail. You can see the ocean in the background.
A family shot. :) Bridget had a great time people-watching from her baby bjorn and found the ever-changing scenery stimulating. She smiled at everyone we passed and watched the wind move the trees and birds fly overhead. She loved it!

This is a nice shot of the travelers at the same high point on the Dunes trail but facing away from the ocean. Mom is representing my alma mater, Boston College.

I love this one because you can see Kathleen in the background waving us over excitedly to see a new bird and it looks like Bridget is reading the guide book. You can also tell that Bridget is in two outfits since you see her jeans peeking through one leg of her outer fleece outfit. :)
Ken got quite a workout carrying Bridget around all over the trails and down to the beach. I logged ~8500 steps that day so there was some mighty walking.

10k-a-day

Well, that's my progress on the Alaska Military Highway as defined by how far I have walked it in steps per day. That boot is making me look pretty pathetic... Today's Goal is a good indication of how many steps I need to hit to get back in contention to walk the whole highway before the end of the 10k-a-day.

Last year I attempted the 10k-a-day while pregnant but I had no pants waistline to secure the pedometer to so I put it on a lanyard around my neck. It would bounce off my stomach as I walked about but ultimately it was a pretty inaccurate counter. When Ken ran his pedometer over with the lawn mower, I cheerfully gave mine up to him.

This year I was determined to finish the 10k on my own merits. The advantage of a pants waistline for accurate steps counting can not be overlooked. A disastrous double-header in softball (for me, the team is still undefeated) has left me limping through this 10k however. It's like my pedometer is faintly mocking me as I hear it click slowly as I shuffle down hallways. There's always next year?

First Mother's Day

My first mother's day with Bridget! Bridget gave us her first present by sleeping until 8am! Above is the rose from my mom and the picture collage that Bridget's daycare made for me. They got such great pictures of Bridgey!

This is the beautiful purple plant that Ken got me for mother's day. This is a new annual tradition since he got me one for my mom-to-be day last year. He knows that I love to look out at my flowers and the birds.

We visited Bridget's Great-Nana Boermeester in the morning. It was their first meeting so we got a generations picture with Bridget, Ken, Ken's mom, and Great-Nana.
And since I can't help the cuteness, I've got a picture of Bridget waiting for her lunch. She does so great with her puffs. Now that she has mastered eating them, she'll eat a few at a time.
I also got cards from my friend Stephanie and my dad and some nice texts/facebook posts from friends too. :) It was a wonderful day! Ken changed all the diapers and I got to relax with a book for a little while. We also got to see most of our families which was really fun. Ken, Bridget, and I all took a nap in Ken's parents backyard hammock outside enjoying the beautiful weather.

Bridget's First Swim

Last weekend, Bridget attended her cousin James' 5th Birthday Party. After cake and playtime, she got to swim in the YMCA pool with Ken and all the other kids. She had a blast and didn't want to get out.

New Fence

I promised pictures of the new fence so now I'm delivering. For some perspective, I also put up a similar shot of the old pool and old blue and white chainlink fence. The tire tracks will soon be lush green grass thanks to Ken's handiwork. The front part of the fence has lattice along the top and we have a double-door gate there and a new gate at the end of the tire tracks for Ken to access his composting.

Eight Months

Ken and I measure Bridget each month so we can post the updates in her baby book.

Weight: 17.5 lbs
Height: 27 inches

My baby girl has gained almost 10 pounds and 8 inches since birth. She's catching up to Auntie Kathleen! :)
On the top: Bridget feeding herself a bottle
On the bottom: Bridget figuring out how to get the water out of the sippy cup. She lays down next to it so the water is high enough for her to drink it out.
